Aplicație:

Palovarotenul este un agonist al receptorului de acid retinoic disponibil oral, cu selectivitate specifică față de subtipul gamma al RAR. Palovarotenul reduce formarea de cartilaj dependentă de ALK2/Smad și diferențierea celulelor osoase prin legarea la RAR și inhibarea fosforilării Smad1/5/8, reducând astfel căile de semnalizare din aval de BMP/ALK2 și obținând o reducere a formării osoase endocondrale.
